Alchemy Cocktail Bar Branding & Web Design

Home Projects Alchemy Cocktail Bar Branding & Web Design

My favorite project so far, Alchemy, was a neighborhood craft cocktail bar in West Seattle which I took the creative lead on. I started this project when the bar was an empty shell of concrete, with the intentions of creating an intimate, sophisticated, unforgettable experience.

The stumbled-upon library of a seasoned alchemist, (who just happened to serve gourmet hand crafted cocktails with organic, farm fresh ingredients) was the vibe we were going for. The design was inevitably vintage, natural, scientific, and mysterious.

Our target market were educated professionals and uniques in the 30-50 year old age range, mostly white.

The surrounding area, near a busy new intersection of West Seattle, was covered in apartment buildings. It was important for us to appeal directly to the people living and working within the 5 mile radius. A typical Seattle evening is dreary, gloomy, and rainy, and we wanted to and tap into that energy, intriguing our customers to stop in after work to meet friends and have a quick bite and drink before heading home.
It was important to balance the moody blacks with colors that would compliment without competing. The tan could have come from a sepia photograph, a vintage jar label, or an old paper bag. The bar had a white washed vintage tile floor to balance the dark walls and black velvet drapes. The wood carried on throughout the website as well. Santos Dumont was the perfect script, exactly how you’d imagine an old chemist to be scribbling his notes. The serif, High Tower, was a great balance to the scribbles, like a structured typewriter.

The menus were updated quarterly, with ingredients sourced from what local farms had in season. I designed a pdf which the chef was able to update from her computer, and print out as needed. We found beautiful black leather menu covers and blind embossed the logo on the front.

Deliverables included: desktop & mobile websites, cocktail and dinner menus, interior design promotional materials, outdoor signage, business cards, floor plans/employee paperwork, social media marketing, content creation, food & space photography
